Run to your nearest bank to exchange pre-2005
currency notes as Reserve Bank of India has extended the last date for exchange
of currency notes. June 30 2015; is the last day for exchanging pre-2005
currency notes, including those of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denominations. The previous deadline for the exchange of the old
currency notes was January 1.
This step taken by RBI because new currency have
additional security features in it and also old notes can be easily
distinguished from the new ones, as new notes printed after 2005 have year of
printing on the reverse side of the note, at the bottom.
Hence notes issued before year 2005 will be removed from
circulation.
