Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami, Dasara, or Dashain) is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.On this day Lord Ram killed demon Ravan .
Ravana plays an important role in the Ramayana. Ravana had a sister known as Shoorpanakha. She fell in love with Lakshamana brother of ram and wanted to marry him. Lakshamana refused to marry her.Then Shoorpanakha threatened to kill Sita. This angered Lakshamana who cut off Shoorpanakha's nose and ears. Ravana then kidnapped Sita to take revenge of his sister's injuries. Rama and Lakshamana later fought a battle to rescue Sita and killed Ravan.And for this Dusshera is celebrated all over India that shows victory of good, truth over evil.
It is a gazetted holiday in India,all banks , public offices, colleges, schools are closed.On this day Plays of ramayan were organized on different places , to pass this message to younger generation.
