Makar Sankranti is celebrated by Hindus on 14th January,it
is marked by the return of Sun to Northern Hemisphere, popularly called
Uttarayan. This transition happens in the month of Magha in India and is
celebrated in various parts of the country in different ways.
People take a dip in the sacred river Ganges and worship
the Sun God to purify souls. The celebration signifies the age old belief of
eliminating darkness of deception and moving towards brightness and light.
